Gleaning
Gleaning is an ancient tradition that is experiencing a much needed renaissance in the UK. Traditionally, after farmers harvested their crops they would allow the local community to come on to their land and harvest (or 'glean') the leftover produce. Modern day gleaning is a way for volunteers to collect perfectly good produce that would otherwise be wasted and distribute it to local charities.Following the initial event in July 2013, The Gleaning Network quickly set up a hub for the Sussex area. So far local gleaners have rescued apples, plums and pumpkins and distributed the surplus via FareShare and at our Good Food for Good Causes event.

PlanZheroes
PlanZheroes works to link local businesses who generate food waste to local charities who could benefit from receiving this food as a donation. They connect the two together using an interactive map, allowing businesses and charities to see who and what is available locally. At our Good Food for Good Causes events we sign up all the charities who come to us, however, in Brighton & Hove we need to do more to sign businesses up. In the near future we will host another event to try and make this happen!
